The Fifth Time 100 is Here!

The Time magazine annually publishes the Time 100, a list of 100 most influential people in the world; and the 2008 Time 100 has arrived ... with Opraaaah -seriously, she's been there all the time including as one of the most important people in 20th century. Although I only know a fraction of the people on the list, reading it every year is enjoyable. I especially like the fact that the writing accompanying it is made by other significant figure. For example, this year Michelle Obama wrote about Oprah, the female half of Billary wrote about Chile's President Michelle Bachelet, Cate Blanchett about Aussie PM K-Rudd (hey, "K-Rudd" sounds good!), and Berlusconi about Bush.

Obama, Hillary, and McCain are all there. Malaysia's Anwar Ibrahim also made an appearance. Want more? I'll randomly pick some of the 100ers: Miley Cyrus, Suu Kyi, Tony Blair, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, Iron Man's Robert Downey Jr., NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Muqtada al-Sadr, Lance Armstron, and Mariah Carey. By randomly I meant that I just flip uncarefully through the list and put down names that I knew.

Also annually, readers will then protest, criticize, or complain about who's on the list and who's not. Joel Stein even made his own 100 using a real but ridiculous mathematical formula. Sometimes, I also have those thoughts. Ellen DeGeneres should've been on the list (OK, that's simply subjective); or at least, more YouTubrities should've been there. When millions of people watch you, some of them regularly, it gets hard to be uninfluential. Anyway, I still respect what Time magazine has done so far. It's their opinion and they're sharing it, no problem with that. In fact, it may help the less-known 100ers to gain more exposure for their cause.

Hmmm, does any Indonesian magazine or paper publish this kinda stuff? It'll be good because then we'll be able to know about who has really done something and who hasn't. Making a big impact in Indonesia is not an easy task, so someone should really try to appreciate the ones who did. If there were a list like this, I'm sure Roncar ad's "guy in car" and "confused girl motorcyclist" will make the list, hahaha. What a smart way to end a midnight post.
